Growth in Green Jobs

Over the past decade, “green” American jobs have increase by 250%. There are now 770,000 jobs which are spread among 68,200 different businesses. This is a major step in the green movement because not only do these jobs help reduce America’s dependecy on forgien oil and coal, it also helps to create more and more practical job opportunities for the American people as our nation moves into hard economical times. This high number of green jobs is slowly becoming equalivilent to the number of coal, mining, and oil jobs in the U.S. (1.27 million). The hope is that the green sector will overtake the fossi fuel/oil based energy producers because green energy produces more jobs per energy unit produced than the fossil fuel sector.

So keep your eyes peal for some enviormentally friendly job opportunites! :)

Your Next Car?

Everyday on my way to and from school, I can count at least 8 Prius’s. This cheese wedge looking car has started a movement of hybrid vehicles in the major car companies of the world for the last few years and has helped spark an important green movement in America. However, these hybrids are simply the tip of the ice burg.

Although this movie is a couple years old, it is still very true to this day, so check it out, and maybe consider to go electric when buying your next car! :)

Marin County Fair: The Greenest County Fair on Earth!

Coming up this July 1-5, the annual Marin County fair will be held at it’s usual Marin Civic Center location. This fair has been becoming greener and greener in the last two years by adding as many enviormentally friendly aspects as they can such as:

  • Solar panels which provide for 40% of the fair’s kilowatt usage
  • A Ben and Jerry’s Solar Stage
  • BioFuel Powered Concerts, where biofuel is providing 99% of the energy
  • Convenient Recycling and Compost containers
  • Propeller-free Windspires which use wind energy for power
  • Electric Wheels Car Show showcasing new and exciting EVs
  • Using recycled materials for awards and trophies
  • Organic food services to provide healthier greener food

It is not only a green activity for your summer, but it’s also a lot of fun!! Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for kids between 4-12 and seniors above 65, kids under 4 free! The fair also has an impressive fireworks display every night and a fun carnival. Also free valet parking for bikes :) I highly recommend this fair; it is very worth while.

Hi Everybody!

My name is Maddie. I am a seventeen year old high schooler. I love to play soccer, hang out with friends, normal teenager things.

So, basically since the Inconvinient Truth and the start up of my parents’ electric car business, Electric Marin Wheels LLC (http://www.electricmarinwheels.com), I have been interested in Global Warming and doing my part to stop it. Thanks to my Intro to Computers class at school, I have learned how to create and maintain a blog. With my new skills I decided to write about something I am interested in and try to help other people go green :)

So, thank you very much for checking out my site, and stay tuned for helpful hints, easy tricks, advice, facts, and much more to help you, your family, your friends, your co-workers, whoever, GO GREEN!
